Shortness of Breath
Choking (Infant)
Lay the baby face down, head low along your forearm. Support his head and shoulders with your hand. Give up to 5 back blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.
If the obstruction is still present:
- Give up to 5 chest thrusts, place 2 fingers on the lower half of the baby's breast bone and give 5 sharp downward thrusts.
- Do a quick check after each one to see if the obstruction has been dislodged.
If you see an obvious obstruction in the baby's mouth remove it; however do not feel blindly into a baby's mouth as an adult's fingers are big and bulky and therefore you may cause damage to the back of the baby's mouth or throat and could push the object in further.
