A pneomothorax is a condition where air enters the pleural space and part of the lung collapses as a result.

There are three types of pneumothorax, distinguished by whether the air entering the pleural space can escape:

1. open pneumothorax
2. closed pneumothorax
3. tension pneumothorax.
